Jean Beasley Sea Turtle Conservationist NC, Has Died

An era ended today. Jean Beasley, a titan of sea turtle conservation, has taken her final migration, passing away early this morning in the company of loved ones. She will be infinitely missed.

For over fifty years, Beasley’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication. Her extraordinary efforts resulted in the direct protection of more than 3,027 sea turtle nests and the successful emergence of over 245,839 hatchlings since she began formally collecting data in 1995—with countless more saved prior.

Her legacy, however, is built on more than numbers. Driven by profound personal commitment, she founded the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in honor of her late daughter. This wonderful hospital became a sanctuary for turtle-kind and humankind alike, nursing over 1,671 sick and injured sea turtles back to health.

Jean Beasley’s indomitable spirit created a ripple effect of protection and compassion that will endure for generations. Though she has gone, her profound impact on the world’s coastlines and the creatures that inhabit them ensures her work will continue to inspire and safeguard the future of these ancient mariners.
