Ms. Valestine Penn Treasure, Opelika Police Department Mourns Member

We are heartbroken to hear the news that our dear friend and true Opelika treasure, Ms. Valestine Penn, passed away on November 30, 2025.

To say Valestine was “active” in our community would be an understatement. She was often the heartbeat of it. If there was a need, Valestine was not only the first to volunteer but the last to leave, making sure everything was done right.

She dedicated countless hours to bridging the gap between citizens and our department. As the National Night Out Chairwoman, she brought neighborhoods together. As one of the original Community Liaisons, she paved the way for better engagement within Ward 1. And as a devoted member and former President of the Opelika Citizens Police Academy, she served with pride and distinction.

Valestine was the definition of going “above and beyond.” Her smile, her energy, and her servant’s heart will be deeply missed, but her legacy of service will remain woven into the fabric of this community.
